Organization of Taipei Department of Education and Affiliated Institutions

I. Organization: There are eight divisions and eight offices in our bureau.

• Division of Higher and Vocational Education:
  In charge of higher education, vocational education, registration, certification, and training of teachers.
• Division of Senior and Junior High School Education:
  In charge of high school education.
• Division of Elementary Education:
  In charge of elementary education.
• Division of Early Childhood Education:
  In charge of preschool education.
• Division of Special Education: In charge of special education.
• Division of Social Education: In charge of social education.
• Division of Physical and Sanitary Education:
  In charge of school, social physics, sanitation, health and other matters.
• Division of School Construction and Property Management:
  In charge of public schools, social education association’s land and property management. Also in charge of school and social education association’s construction engineer designing, planning, contract and supervising matters.
• The Secretariat Division:
  In charge of affairs, secretarial, cashier, and all matters that does not belong to other departments.
• The Computer Center:
  In charge of computerizing administration and dealing with education.
• The Military Education Office:
  In charge of affairs in military and nursing in high schools and above.
• The Educational Inspector’s Office:
  In charge of affairs in evaluating, guiding, and improving schools of all levels and social education institution.
• The Accounting Office:
  In charge of affairs in annual budget planning and bookkeeping.
• The Statistics Office:
  In charge of estimation affairs.
• The Personnel Office:
  In charge of affairs in personnel management.
• The Ethics Office:
  In charge of anti-corruption affairs and evaluating officials.

II. Subordinate Organization

Social Education Organization: Library (one main library, 38 branches, and 12 reading rooms), Teacher’s In-service Education Center, Taipei Zoo, Astronomical Museum, Sports Office, Children Recreation Center, Children’s Museum of Transportation (BOT), Youth Recreation Center (BOT).

III. Organization of Taipei Municipal Education (until the end of August 2004)

1. College and university: One teachers college and one physical education college.
   
   
2. Senior high schools: 26 public schools, 22 private schools, and 1 school in process. (There are 9 vocational high schools with senior high school programs.)
   
   
3. Vocational high schools: 7 public schools, 11 private schools.
   (There are 11 private senior high schools with vocational programs.)
   
   
4. Junior high schools: 57 public schools, 4 private schools.
   (There are 21 senior high schools with junior high school programs)
   
   
5. Elementary schools: 139 public schools, 10 private schools, and 4 schools in process.
   
   
6. Remedial school: 31 public schools, and 20 private schools.
   
   
7. Kindergarten: 131 public kindergartens and 251 private kindergartens.
   
   
8. Special schools: one for the visually impaired, one for the hearing impaired, one for the mentally handicapped, and Wen-Shan special education school.
