Organization of Taipei City Government¡¦s Department
of Education and Its Affiliated Institutions
I. Organization Structure: There are eight divisions and eight offices under the Department, the responsibilities of which are summarized as follows:

- The Division of Higher and Vocational Education is in charge of the city's colleges, vocational high schools and registration for teachers¡¦ training courses.

- The Division of Senior and Junior High School Education is in charge of the city's secondary education.

- The Division of Elementary Education is in charge of the city's elementary education.

- The Division of Early Childhood Education is in charge of the city's preschool education.
- The Division of Special Education is in charge of the city's special education.

- The Division of Social Education is in charge of the city's social education.
Ć
- The Division of Physical and Sanitary Education is in charge of the city's school and social physical and health education.

- The Division of School Construction and Property Management oversees land acquisition and manages properties of the city's public schools and social education agencies and is in charge of the engineering design, plans for, and contracting and monitoring of school construction projects.

- The Secretariat Office handles official correspondence, reception, payments, and matters not in the jurisdiction of other divisions and offices.

- The Computer Office is in charge of computerization of the administrative procedures and offers support to the various divisions and offices to administer information education.

- The Military Education Office supervises the administration of military and nursing courses in secondary schools and above.

- The Educational Inspector¡¦s Office evaluates the performance of the city's schools of all levels and social education agencies and recommends ways of improvement.

- The Accounting Office is in charge of budgeting, accounting and accounts audit.

- The Statistics Office is responsible for compilation and analysis of statistics.
Ć
- The Personnel Office is in charge of personnel management.
Ć
- The Ethics Office is in charge of anti-corruption affairs and staff evaluation.
II. Affiliated Organizations:
Taipei Public Library (one headquarters, 41 branches, and 16 reading rooms), Taipei Teachers' In-service Center, Taipei Zoo, Taipei Astronomical museum, Taipei Sports Office, Children¡¦s Recreation Center, Taipei Family Education Center, Children's Museum of Transportation (management is outsourced), and Youth Recreation Center (management is outsourced).
III. Taipei Municipal Education Body (As at the end of 2006)
- Colleges: The city has two colleges, namely Taipei Municipal University of Education and Taipei Municipal Physical Education College.
- Senior High Schools: The city has 51 senior high schools operating under its wing including 2 national, 26 municipal and 23 private high schools. In addition, 6 vocational high schools in the city offer general high school education programs.
- Vocational High Schools: The city has17 vocational high schools operating under its wing including 7 public and 10 private vocational high schools. In addition, 10 private high schools in the city offer vocational education programs.
- Junior High Schools: The city has 62 junior high schools operating under its wing including 59 public and 3 private junior high schools. In addition, 12 pubic high schools and 12 private high schools offer junior high school programs.
- Elementary Schools: The city has 153 elementary schools operating under its wing including 2 national, 141 municipal and 10 private elementary schools, while 2 are under construction.
- Supplementary Schools: The city has 47 supplementary schools under its wing including 29 public and 18 private.
- Kindergartens: The city has 355 kindergartens under its wing including 2 national, 137 municipal and 216 private.
- Special schools: The city has one school for the visually impaired, one for the hearing impaired, one for the mentally handicapped, and the Wen-shan Special School.
