General Information
  1. Computers are an indispensable part of the modern era in that they significantly simplify tasks and boost efficiency. Enormous manpower is saved and real-time communication is rendered a reality.

  2. Computer application courses are available in every school to cultivate students demand for new technology. Students make wide use of computer technology and up the city¡¦s progress in the development of information technology.

  3. Computer courses in the past required 2 students to share 1 computer. The student-computer ratio then for the municipal schools was 48:1. Upon allocating a generous budget to upgrade schools¡¦ computer facilities, the ratio is now significantly improved to 6:1.

  4. In the past few years, given the Department¡¦s dedication and effort to promote information education, one can see marked improvement in students¡¦ IT competency and increases in the number of Internet users. Parents are also aware of the technological movements. As such, more homes now own computers and have access to Internet services. These changes are indeed beneficial in enhancing the effects of formal information education.
Important Measures
  1. Make the Internet service available at every school
    1. The Internet gives users access to information in a borderless world. Through Taiwan¡¦s academic net, municipal schools are able to engage in sound information teaching.
    2. The campus Intranet is a network for schools to transmit the various campus and administrative information. By connecting the Intranet to the Internet through a server, each school may undertake inter-school information exchange and experience sharing to facilitate growth.
    3. Complete the set up of the Wireless Lan and fiber optical network to achieve a 100% wireless lan coverage rate in high-usage campus areas. Increase the bandwidth to 100M, an increase in connection speed of 50 times comparing to existing service.

  2. Upgrade computer rooms and improve students¡¦ computer skills
    1. The computer teaching network is a school¡¦s frontline network environment, which facilitates resources management and sharing for information education. By connecting the teaching network to the Internet, teachers and students are able to freely source information from the Internet.
    2. A computer room is allocated for every 35 classes in elementary schools, 30 classes in junior high schools, 20 classes in senior high schools and 10 classes in vocational high schools. All schools have instituted computer rooms.

  3. One computer and Internet access for every classroom
    1. Set up one computer (desktop or notebook) in every classroom to aid teaching. Coupled with the use of overhead projectors etc, the quality of teaching and results of learning are enhanced. All general, special subject, special education and affiliated kindergarten classes have access to one computer each.
    2. In addition to the computer, an overhead screen and Internet socket are installed at every classroom while every 4 classes share the use of an overhead projector and laser printer.

  4. Organize computer literacy seminars for teachers
The Department hosts IT seminars each year in an effort to enhance teachers¡¦ basic computer literacy and operational skills, increase teachers¡¦ use of computers to source teaching information, reform existing teaching approaches and facilitate multifaceted teaching styles. The optimal goal is to fully integrate information technology into daily teaching.

  5. Publish the first set of teaching materials for information literacy and ethics, available at the senior high, junior high and elementary school levels
Upon publishing the book ¡§Information Literacy and Ethics¡¨ for senior high schools and vocational schools in 2005, the junior high and elementary editions are made available in 2006. We hope that the materials will help improve students¡¦ computer literacy, educate them on the relevant laws and regulations and make use of other peoples¡¦ information ethically.
Future Prospects
  1. Actively promote information education to offer students and teachers a sound information education environment. Enhance teachers¡¦ skills in integration information technology into daily teaching to equip students with contemporary IT competency.

  2. Promote the application of Wireless Lan in information education to achieve borderless learning and applications.

  3. Train teachers to prepare digital teaching materials and develop students¡¦ capabilities in autonomous learning.

  4. Promote campus digitalization. Combine the digital student card with the Easy Card.

  5. Further expand the services and resources of the Easy Teaching Network for the benefit of teachers.

  6. Promote information literacy and ethics.

  7. Actively participate in international IT events and competition.
